What are orthotics?
Foot orthotics are shoe inserts designed to support, align or improve the function of the foot – to manage foot and lower leg pain.
What do they treat?
Orthotics provide solutions to and treatment of:
- General foot pain
- Corns
- Callous
- Ulceration
- Tendonitis
- Recurrent ankle sprains
- Stress fractures
as they redistribute the body’s weight on the feet and provide consistent postural control.
Can any podiatrist fit them?
No. Not all podiatrists prescribe orthotics. Some podiatrists specialise in making and fitting orthotics and will understand foot function which will enable them to prescribe you an orthotic which will optimise your foot function and its efficiency in gait.
At Jindabyne Podiatry our orthotic service includes:
-
-
- A full assessment of your foot problem
- Individualised orthoses
- Any fine-tuning that needs to be made to your orthoses
- An ongoing treatment plan (including follow ups)
- Any additional advice on exercises and footwear
-
Who are orthotics for?
People of all ages wear orthoses and they are designed specifically for the individual’s needs and problems.
Can’t I just buy orthotics from the pharmacy or sports store?
Orthotics that are purchased over the counter are generic in nature. This means they have a “one size fits all” design. If you have a specific injury with an underlying foot mechanical problem a custom orthotic will give you the best result to manage your unique biomechanical forces. Getting you back on your feet, pain free and into your activities as quickly as possible is our goal!
